I finally have it! You may have noticed I’ve been riding a red colored AC1 for the past month or so, but truth is it was on loan while I waited for my bike. In many things I do, I have good equipment, but not usually the best. I’m not a penny pincher, but I am a practical person and I will often buy used or second generation stuff to save a few dollars. This bike is really special to me because there are no compromises. Everything is top of the line and exactly as I would like it.
I won’t bore you will every minute detail, but the components are all SRAM Red, Stem/Bars are Ritchey WCS, and the wheels are obviously Rol carbon tubulars. The bike is just over the UCI weight limit of 15 lbs, at 15.2 lbs as pictured above. This is something that will apply to me at national level events, so I don’t want a lighter bike. Possibly the only compromise is the tires. If I had my way, I would have Continental Competitions mounted, but at $120 each, they’re about twice the cost of the sprinters. Next season I think I might try the new Specialized Turbo, since it is somewhere in between.
Speaking of next season, as with anything these days, having the best doesn’t last long. Blue already next year’s AC1 SL. It will be similar with a few updates: 100g lighter, a new paint job, and a stiffer front end with a tapered steerer. Luckily for me, they are small upgrades so I think I’ll be happy with my dream bike for a while.
